The Institute of Cellular and Molecular Immunology of the University Medical Center Göttingen is looking for:

PhD student (m/f/d) for a research project on antigen-mediated activation of B-lymphocytes

for 2 years, with the possibility of an extension, part-time (25 h/week) | salary according to TV-L

The University Medical Center Göttingen is a tertiary care center and offers great development potential. Its 7,900 employees work in over 65 departments and facilities to provide top-quality patient care, excellent research and modern teaching. Göttingen, "City of Science", located near the center of Germany, the University Medical Center Göttingen is embedded in the city’s attractive network of scientific research facilities.

The project will be conducted at the Institute of Cellular & Molecular Immunology which is part of the University Medical Center, Göttingen. Our Institute provides cutting-edge infrastructure allowing the in-depth analyses of immune processes at all levels. We collaborate with several research groups inside and outside of the Göttingen Research Campus. The PhD project aims at the molecular and functional characterization of Bcell signaling proteins that drive humoral immune responses. Loss-of-function mutations of these key elements cause primary antibody deficiency in humans (Keller et al. J. Exp. Med. 2018). Applied methods will include various cell culture systems including primary human or murine B-cells and genome editing techniques, such as CRISPR/CAS9 in combination with proteomic profiling of wild-type or genetically modified B cells.

We require:

  • PhD student with interest in the biochemical and genetic analyses of intracellular signaling pathways that drive the activation of antigen-stimulated Bcells and their subsequent differentiation into antibody-secreting plasma cells
  • skills and experience in genetic techniques (DNA/RNA-methods, PCR, retroviral transduction systems) and/or protein-protein interaction analyses (e.g. immunoprecipitation, western blotting)
  • team working is also mandatory because the candidate will be part of an international team of researchers from many areas
  • highly motivated and ability to work independently
  • perseverance and flexibility
  • english language proficiency

We offer:

  • interdisciplinary scientific environment
  • friendly and welcoming work environment
  • international networking possibilities
  • extensive advanced training and education and excellent internal health management
  • varied and interesting benefits (e.g. inhouse day-care facility, attractive infrastructure, discounted railway tickets)
  • competitive gross salary according to 65 % of the German TV-L regulations for 2 years

Men are especially encouraged to apply. Applicants with disabilities and equal qualifications will be given preferential treatment.

We look forward to receiving your application by April 12th, 2020:
